This course provides you with all you need to master a difficult conversation. Such conversations are part of any role at work – leader, manager, customer facing or colleague. They are inevitable and necessary. Yet most people fear such conversations, which often leads to avoidance, or jumping in without thinking and creating more issues. We’ve never been taught how to have these conversations and what is needed to navigate them successfully. It doesn’t need to be this way.
I’ll guide you through all I’ve learnt from 15 years of almost daily difficult conversations in the highly emotive and stressful world of social work. I’ve had life changing conversations with people, broken bad news, provided sensitive feedback, raised issues with behaviour, supported people to change, and so much more. I will share with you what works, from how to prepare effectively to what to say and how to say it. We will look at how the power of human connection can create an environment in which truly difficult subjects can be discussed. You will learn how to master the natural stress these conversations provoke and enable both you and the other person to bring their best selves to the conversation. All difficult conversations involve some form of change and you will be given the keys to manage this successfully. You will learn how to master these conversations, increase your confidence, and increase your chances of success.
