We are going to sit at our favorite café with a cup of coffee or tea, and enjoy life while sharing with you as my friends the knowledge of this subject which I have developed over my entire life as a practicing artist and art historian. In this course we will also seek to learn from the French how to enjoy life, the Joie de Vivre, which is the main theme of these beautiful paintings. Impressionism revolutionized the way we see and convey the world around us. In this course we focus primarily on French Impressionism. First we cover the founders of Impressionism: Manet, Monet, Renoir, Degas and Toulouse-Lautrec. Then we will explore the work of some less well known, but excellent artists: Vuillard, Fantin-Latour, Pissarro, Berthe Morisot, the sculptor Rodin, Caillebotte, and the Spanish master Sorolla. Everything covered in this course is based on direct and first hand observation focusing on the works, the art, rather than on all the tangential things.
I teach lecture courses and studios as I wish they would have been taught to me. Much of the graphic material in my lectures is taken or generated first hand directly by me on site. I teach to learn. I teach subjects as I wish they were taught to me. The Mission Statement. Education is a tool for the improvement of successive generations. I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand. Confucius
