This Training Program includes detailed Equipment selection of all major HVAC Equipments. Classification, criteria, parameters of following Products has been discussed in Detailed:
1. Chiller Selection
– Classification of Chillers
– Details required to select Air cooled chiller
– Parameters to judge performance of Air cooled Chiller
– Chiller selection through Midea brand software
– Case study
2. AHU Selection
It includes all 3 major sections
– Coil section
– Fan section
– Filter section
3. Cooling Tower Selection
– Classification of cooling Tower
– important terminologies like Range, approach etc
– Cas study
4. Pump Selection
Very important section for chilled water system design. Head loss & Flowrate is mandatory criteria for pump selection.
5. Fan Selection
Its used in ventilation as well as Air conditioning . Fans are used in AHU , Air washer , Exhaust Fans etc
6. Humidifier Selection
7. Coil Selection
8. HRW Selection
After going through this Training Program candidate must be able the design the system in more effective way as Equipment selection is an important parameter of any HVAC system Design.
Equipment Selection helps in
1. Cost optimization
2. Energy saving
3. Value Engineering
HVAC Selection Criteria
There were several factors that we took into consideration when thinking about how to come up with a criteria matrix. We looked at the problem from different perspectives as different stakeholders would prioritize different selection criteria. The ones we thought were most important are listed below:
COST
-
Initial cost – This includes costs of installation and labour costs. Some systems may need a highly specialized engineers to install which will inevitably increase initial cost. We are also taking into account any transportation costs. The owners are most likely going to be fairly concerned with initial cost.
-
Operating cost – The cost in order to run the system, this can vary greatly as factors such as replacement of elements is included. A system like a fan will have very low operating cost as no special labour is required.
-
Maintenance – This includes things such as replacing parts on the system and ease. Similarly to before, the fan will require minimal maintenance whereas other systems such as a Rooftop Package Unit will be harder to maintain and will require an engineer.
EFFECTIVENESS
-
Cooling Capacity – One of the main purposes of HVAC systems, conditioning the air to a comfortable temperature for occupants. In the case of a computer server farm, cooling capacity is one of the, if not most important criteria. Computer servers will generate heat whilst operating, most of the time operating 24 hours a day. Cooling capacity must be sufficient to stop the servers from over heating and therefore turning off which could lead to a huge loss of data.
-
Heating Capacity – Whilst not as important as cooling capacity in our case, still required in extreme temperatures such as Anchorage, Alaska where average high temperatures in January are around 23ºF.
-
Humidity Control – In a computer farm where there are many electrical systems, humidity control is important to ensure the servers function properly. If humidity is too high, this may cause damage to terminals and hardware
-
Pressure – Not a major concern, but is definitely equipment dependent. Each computer system may have special needs involving pressure
-
Ventilation – Considered in terms of air circulation and ability to minimize dust gathering on the servers.
MISCELLANEOUS
-
Life Span – of an interest to the owners, we are designing for the computer server farm to last 20 years so the lifespan of the HVAC system should ideally also last this long
-
Acoustics/Vibration – whilst not vital for a computer server farm as they are not usually occupied, we considered this criteria anyway thinking about if a the server farm was attached to a building that was occupied by people
-
Component Complexity – the ease at which the system can be controlled to provide the amount of HVAC required
-
Controllability – the ease of controlling the environment of the room
-
Energy Consumption – of a concern perhaps to environmental groups and also the owner who will be paying for energy. Ideally, a low energy consumption system would be the best option however, this may not always meet the HVAC needs.
-
Climate – how effective the system is within a certain climate. This will be weighted in our criteria matrix as we have chosen locations which are at opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of climate throughout the year
