What is PHR?
PHR (Professional in Human Resources) is a certificate awarded by the HR Certification Institute (HRCI) following the successful completion of the HRCI’s PHR exam. A PHR certificate is an excellent way for HR professionals to set themselves apart. The exam is administered by Pearson VUE testing centers located around the world.
Who is eligible for the PHR exam?
Individuals with professional HR experience or a combination of professional experience and education are eligible for the PHR exam. Different amounts of professional experience are required depending on an applicant’s highest level of education. PHR certification is ideal for experienced HR professionals looking to advance their careers.
The type of work an individual performs and the level of experience they have helps to determine which test to take. The PHR is geared towards professionals who do not have a lot of Human Resources experience (typically 1-4 years), who answer to someone higher in the organization, and who focus on the HR department rather than the entire organization.
To be eligible to sit for the PHR exam you must have:

a minimum of 1 year of experience in a professional-level HR position with a Master’s degree or higher

OR a minimum of 4 years of experience in a professional-level HR position with a high school diploma
Exam Structure :
The PHR exam consists of 175 computer-based multiple choice questions. Of these questions 150 are scored, and the other 25 are non-scored pretest questions that are randomly placed throughout the exam and are used for future exams. Three hours is given to complete the exam.
