Emergency evacuations fall into three basic categories; site-specific hazards; man-made hazards and natural disasters. The learner will learn how to assess the potential emergency evacuation scenarios and take proactive measures to reduce/eliminate the potential damage to the company.
The student will learn the emergency planning process where strategies are discussed to get input the from employees. Employees know the hazards much better than management. Part of the planning process is to let employees run the emergency planning process to help garner support. The elements of the Emergency Planning Process are:
1.Establish a team
2.Determine hazards and response (gap assessment)
3.Implement gap assessment and develop plan
4.Implement plan, drill and act on results
The emergency planning process is based on the plan, do, check, act and can be integrated easily into existing ISO standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001. Seldomly discussed aspects of emergency planning such as assessing adequate insurance, to have a diesel or natural gas backup generator, and asking valuable questions such as if; when; where the computer files are backed up and stored. These will be an integral part of the recovery process.
