In this course, “Fundamentals of Forging Quality”, you will learn the foundationsof the quality-related functions unique to the forging process. If you are working as an engineer, technician, or manager in a forging company, learning the key aspects of their quality functions will undoubtedly help you advance your career. And if you are a seasoned quality professional, but new to forging, this is the class you need to learn the key aspects of forging quality.
In this 3.5-hour course, I cover the fundamentalaspects of the following 9 major areas of forging quality (with a few of the sub-topics in parenthesis)
-
Material specification and verification (grades, mill certs, spectrometry)
-
Forging design quality (prints, machining stock allowance, NCU)
-
Process quality (the 6M’s, fishbone diagram, billet temperature measurement)
-
Process auditing (variation, audit templates, LPA’s)
-
Dimensional inspection (gage selection, dimensional analysis, gage error)
-
Mechanical properties testing (Charpy impact testing, Rockwell and Brinell hardness testing, tensile testing)
-
Metallurgical testing (sample preparation, metallurgical defects, grain flow analysis)
-
Visual defects (scale, damage, underfill, flash)
-
Nondestructive testing (liquid penetrant testing, magnetic particle testing, eddy current testing)
In addition to the course videos, I also include quizzes to test your learning at the end of each section and a downloadable fishbone diagram template for use at your organization.
This course evolved from my 12+ year career as the quality manager for a major forging supplier to the automotive industry. Far more that a strictly “academic” course, this course was assembled from my real life experiences in forging.
And again, this is a foundations class. In other words, I designed this course so that students require very little perquisite knowledge. I purposely avoid jargon and more advanced topics. And so, it is my hope that this course will inform those interested in forging quality and provide a starting point for those professionals who want to continue their forge training after this class.
So if you want to advance your skill set in forging quality, THIS IS THE CLASS FOR YOU!!! Best wishes to you. See you in class!!
