A lot of my most popular writing advice is contrarian.

I emphasize writing because that’s the teaching category I’m unfairly dropped into.

Truth is, I don’t teach writing, I teach the process a writer needs to know BEFORE they begin writing, but I digress.

As I said, a lot of my writing advice goes against the grain.

You see, without realizing it, most writing gurus teach you to FAIL.

For most of them, I believe their intentions are good. But what they teach doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hawaii of working for 99% of the people.

Write, write, write. Don’t ever quit. Just knock out thousands of words every day.

They make it seem as if just hammering away without end is the answer to becoming a better writer.

But… again, unknown to most of them because many are just posers with very little REAL experiencein writing REAL fiction. What they’re ACTUALLY doing is this:

So, your guru gives you directions to get on the highway going WEST. And after traveling for days, you complain that you’re not any closer to your destination. And they tell you.

You just don’t WANT it bad enough, man. Drive, drive, drive! Don’t ever quit. Stop whining and just put the pedal to the metal.

And what’s the problem with that?

You’re driving faster in the WRONG direction!
