Have you considered becoming a Lincoln Lawyer? A Lincoln lawyer is an attorney who studied law under a licensed attorney to qualify to take the California State Bar exam.
Now, you may want to consider taking a paralegal course at a community college and working your way up to becoming a law clerk. In doing so, you can avoid taking out a major student loan and then being burdened financially, potentially to the grave. In a law office study program, you’re making a decent living, and the potential is that in four years you may find yourself qualified to take the California Bar Exam.
My course is a comprehensive program of lectures on substantive law that spans more than 20 hours. It includes 61 lectures and is designed to equip you with an understanding of substantive law. I recommend watching it repeatedly and purchasing the textbook to read along, highlight, and make notes.
As a former newspaper editor, I was required to adhere to the Associated Press standard for newspaper writing, ensuring that complex concepts are presented in a way that’s easy to understand for everyone.
Basically, at a seventh-grade reading level. And so, I do my best to explain complex legal matters in as simple of a context as I can.
One can start off taking a paralegal course or receive OJT as a paralegal and learn the basics of how legal cases are prepared and maintained. As a paralegal, you can later transition to becoming a law clerk once you have acquired a comprehensive understanding of the substantive law.
In California law clerks and paralegals can home-study while working for a licensed attorney. They need to develop a thorough understanding of the substantive law.
After all of the educational requirements are met, such as passing the first-year bar exam and meeting the time requirements, the applicant may qualify to sit for the general state bar exam.
After five years of practice in California, other states, which normally require graduation from an ABA law school, allow non-ABA attorneys to sit for their state bar exams.
