Using Cotton thread to make solid structures may seem counter-intuitive at first, but this course will utilize only cotton thread to construct a working action figure, that is as flexible and solid as its store-bought plastic counterparts.
Individual parts of the body of the action figure will be made using a combination of tying knots, and wrapping multiple layers of thread over a central column of thread.
In this overall construction technique, there are 2 important things to focus on – rigidity and proportions – how you can use only thread to make a very sturdy structure, and how important it is to make sure that all parts of the action figure follow a certain uniform scale, so that no piece ends up becoming too big or too small.
In the scope for this course, we’ll use the proposed technique to make a humanoid action-figure, but we’ll also cover how the very same construction principle can be used to make your own character designs which need not be humanoid.
This technique requires no sophisticated tools and equipment, other than glue and a pair of scissors. The action figures constructed using this technique are safe to construct, and safe to play with. Being made of only cotton thread, these do not incorporate any environmentally or physically harmful materials, and are infinitely repairable.
