Learning Pattern Making can be challenging but you will see that with my video/classes the work will be easily absorbed, integrated, and also inspiring; learning pattern making and learning how a garment/design, is put together, how all the pieces come together in a perfect way, is empowering thus building confidence and courage to motivate you to make your own designs.
Creating Yokes to develop new designs is a fun and creative way to achieve new looks, new ideas, new designs. Experimenting with grainlines also is a way to come up with new ideas. When using stripes, designs get very “interesting” because the grainlines will generate some very unique and new ideas.
Learning how to pin muslin unto a dress form is also important in order to end up with a correct pattern. Using muslin to drape is an art that can be used in very original ways to expand your creative reach. Having a Dress Form is very useful and I invite you to purchase one: when it comes to fitting a garment, putting it on a dress form will tell you quickly if you’re executing it correctly or not.
Learning how to modify and “change” a pattern by adding fullness for example is very important and therefore learning the use of the Slash-and Spread technique is so important, giving you the ability to be creative and innovative.
You will be working with a 1-Dart and a 2-Dart sloper/pattern. Learn how to work with, and manipulate, darts is essential in Pattern Making. And how to eliminate a dart by turning it into shirring/gathers.
You will learn how Princess Seams are developed and how that technique can be applied to a garment in order to create new and original designs. There are variations of a Princess Seam, (also known as princess line), and you as a fashion designer get to pick your favorite option to create your unique design.
You will learn how Notches become essential when instructing your seamstress how you want a garment sewn; communicating effectively with your seamstress/pattern-maker is fundamental in the execution of a garment. Notches can define a seam allowance or the can instruct a seamstress/factory how you want a specific clothing item to be assembled, kind of like an instruction manual.

When working with a designer you must know, and be familiar with, the proper terminology, techniques, principals, of pattern drafting so that communication is clear and understood in order to execute a garment accurately. Deciding on which technique to apply to a design, not only expedites the process but the right choice produces optimum results.
Learning how to use an existing pattern, maybe something that you bought at your local fabric store, and, by applying the principals and techniques learned in this course, you can transform the original design into a new idea, will give you confidence and experience.
Pattern making is essential in learning about the construction of a garment. And learning pattern making and garment construction can help you in the design process. Knowing pattern making will help you in knowing what is possible and what is not when it comes to designing a garment, or how to design a garment.
Knowing pattern making is valuable not only in the design room but also in production. If something goes wrong in the factory and the reason is due to a pattern mistake, you must know what to do and how to fix the pattern and/or remedy the situation.
Because pattern making is a very specialized skill, and not everyone can do it, the financial compensation for a pattern maker is usually very high. A pattern maker is a very valuable asset to a company and is treated with respect and rewarded accordingly.
In conclusion, pattern making skills are invaluable for fashion designers, offering numerous benefits such as enhanced creativity, customization capabilities, and cost efficiency.
