Naturopathy can also help more complex conditions like asthma, ADHD, PCOS, chronic kidney disease, thyroid problems, swellings, water retention, arthritis and depression, but this depends on the cause and severity. By studying the Six Principles of Modern Naturopathy, you will learn how to assess several important causes that can contribute to complex conditions.
If you are more interested in heart disease, Alzheimer’s, auto-immune disease and cancers, you should still take this foundation course. We will soon be publishing more specialized courses that deal specifically with these issues.
WHAT MAKES OUR COURSE SPECIAL?
If we really want to help people with natural medicine, we have to do more than just give them instructions without really knowing if they will work. People are smart. They have had tips from all their friends, and probably tried some of them out in a half-hearted way. It’s not easy to take these things on trust and make sweeping changes to your lifestyle, especially to your food. Small changes really don’t work very well.
So how do you acquire enough authority to gain trust and make people listen? After all, if it really worked, we would all know about it, right?
The answer is science. But not the kind of science we read about in newspapers and magazines, which is really just random snippets. We need to show people the total volume, the mass of evidence that backs up the naturopathic approach to illness. We also have to make it clear and easy to understand, and explain why, if there is so much evidence, their doctor has not already applied this treatment.
This course makes it all very easy. You will get access to the medical databases that spell out the science, but your tutor Linda Lazarides will summarize everything in clear and simple language. She joins up the dots so you can see how scientists are actually backing up ancient naturopathic and holistic concepts like “Food as Medicine“, “Sickness Begins in the Intestines” and “Detoxification“. This approach is called Modern Naturopathy.
Linda has been teaching, writing books and developing effective treatment protocols for 30 years. She has trained hundreds of professional naturopathic practitioners, worked with doctors, and advised national organizations in the UK.
COURSE STRUCTURE
This course is in five sections, each with a video lecture, resources and a quiz. There is a final assignment for you to complete at the end of Section 5.
Section 1: The six Principles of Modern Naturopathy. The causes of disease. Why we have to find the cause of a health problem before we can fix it. Analyzing the average modern-day diet and why it is linked to some common ailments. Introducing the Healthy Plate Diet.
Section 2: Symptoms and ailments that can be caused by the way your body handles your food. What food intolerances are and how they cause illness. The Baseline Diet and how to use it for testing purposes.
Section 3: The special importance of sufficient vitamins A and D. The causes of food intolerances. Digestive health, and how the blue and purple fruits help to maintain the special barrier between our food and our blood circulation.
Section 4: We look at the relationship between gut bacteria and some common diseases, what detoxification means, and how naturopaths use it to combat the inflammation that promotes these diseases. By understanding this relationship you will be able to start advising others who may have inflammatory problems.
Section 5: You will learn which superfoods can help combat diseases like diabetes and pre-diabetes, cancers, arthritis and eye problems. You will learn about some common herbal medicines and their actions, which are the most useful dietary supplements, and how homeopathy works. Finally we answer some Frequently Asked Questions.
Please note that the certificate awarded on completion of this course is not a stand-alone professional qualification. It can be used as a foundation for adding on other courses, or as a CPD add-on if you are already a healthcare professional.
